Manchester United, the English Premier League football club, has made a successful initial public offering of 16,666,667 Class A shares. Latham & Watkins LLP advised Manchester United on the offering with a corporate team based in New York led by partners Marc Jaffe and Ian Schuman with associates Stelios Saffos, Tre Weicker, Madeeha Rana and Patrick Mitchell. Advice was also provided by Washington, D.C. partner Alex Cohen, London partner Graeme Ward, New York associate Dennis Craythorn and London associate Huw Thomas on corporate matters; New York partner David Raab, London partner Daniel Friel, New York associate Matthew Dewitz and London associate Graham Samuel-Gibbon on tax matters; New York partner Bradd Williamson and associates Rifka Singer and Hayley Moore on employee benefits and compensation matters; and New York partner Jeffrey Tochner and associate Gabrielle Russell on intellectual property matters.

Latham & Watkins New York partner Marc Jaffe noted: “We are pleased to have helped Manchester United make their entry into the US capital markets and complete this important off-the-field play. After a decade of European issuers rarely accessing the US capital markets, the number of foreign private issuers listing in the US has increased significantly. Not surprisingly, ‘the world’s most popular football team’ is at the front of that effort, and I’m pleased that their offering has been met with healthy investor appetite.”
